Ab Ūniversitāte Dracōvillis Condita
The Dracōville date system is called Ab Ūniversitāte Dracōvillis Condita, from the founding of Dracōville University. The date is measured not in years, but in the number of total solar eclipses in Dracōville since that time. Due to the actions of witches, the length of a Dracōville “year” may be five seconds, or three hundred solar years. A year is divided into seven “months”, and each “month” is further divided into thirteen weeks. To know the current date, one must consult the Dracōville astrologer for an estimate. Due to the inconsistency of the date system and lack of records, conversion from Dracōville dates to other systems are rough estimates at best, and random guesses at worst. Of course the dragons can convert dates accurately, but they will not tell any one.
History of the Dracoville Date System
When Dracōville was searching for a date system, Ab Ūniversitāte Dracōvillis Condita was not the only suggestion. The original idea was to count the number of years since the founding of Dracōville by the Romans, much like Ab Ube Condita. There was, however, disagreement. The dragons demanded they instead count from when the dragons migrated to Dracōville, but the dragons would not say when that actually happened. The witches wanted to instead use a lunar calendar. Eventually, they all agreed to count the total solar eclipses from when Dracōville University was founded. Actually, some people disagreed, but they were eaten.
